Professional Tips to Combat Dry Skin

Professional Tips to Combat Dry Skin

Winter can be a tough time for your skin, with the cold weather and dry air wreaking havoc on your complexion. If you find yourself battling dry, flaky skin during the winter months, fear not! There are a few tips and tricks to help combat dry skin and keep your skin looking and feeling its best.

First, What is a Skin Barrier and Why is it Important?

Your skin barrier is the outermost layer of your skin, also known as the stratum corneum. It acts as a protective shield, keeping harmful substances out and essential moisture in. A healthy skin barrier is crucial for maintaining skin hydration, preventing irritation, defending against environmental stressors while reducing the risk of premature aging.

How Can Hydrating Oils Help Protect Your Skin Barrier?

Hydrating oils, such as our Cold-Pressed Cleansing Oil and Lightweight Hydrating Oil, are packed with nourishing properties that can help strengthen and protect your skin barrier. These oils are rich in vitamins, antioxidants, and essential fatty acids, like linoleic acid, which are all building blocks for maintaining healthy skin.

Veologē Cold-Pressed Cleansing Oil

Our Cold-Pressed Cleansing Oil contains 9 potent oils like organic olive, hempseed, and sea buckthorn oil for gentle cleansing and dryness prevention. Say hello to nourished, glowing skin!

  • Effortlessly remove makeup and impurities
  • Improve the appearance of lines and wrinkles
  • Loaded with vitamins and antioxidants shield your skin from free radical harm
  • Leave your skin feeling soft and smooth
  • Ideal for individuals going through perimenopause, menopause, and post menopause, as hormonal shifts decrease natural oil production, resulting in drier skin.

Veologē Lightweight Hydrating Oil

The Lightweight Hydrating Oil, with apricot kernel and jojoba oil, can help reduce rosacea symptoms and blemishes thanks to its healing, anti-inflammatory properties. By using oils like our Lightweight Hydrating Oil in your skincare routine, you can safeguard your skin barrier and uphold a youthful, healthy complexion.

  • Even your complexion and correct discoloration
  • Brighten and promote a fresh glow
  • Creates a dewy finish when added before (or with) foundation
  • Soothe acne and reduce chances of future outbreaks

How to Incorporate Hydrating Oils into Your Skincare Routine

You'll love how versatile our hydrating oils are! You can use the Cold-Pressed Cleansing Oil and Lightweight Hydrating Oil as a cleanser. Or, use it on its own or mix it with your favorite veologē moisturizer for an extra boost of hydration.

Avoid Hot Showers

While a hot shower may feel great on a cold winter day, it can actually strip your skin of its natural oils and make dryness worse. Opt for lukewarm water instead, and try to keep your showers short to prevent your skin from drying out.

Gentle Exfoliation

Exfoliating can help remove dead skin cells and allow your moisturizer to penetrate more deeply, but be gentle with your skin, especially in the winter. Select an exfoliator like our Enzyme Exfoliator that gently repairs and rehydrates your skin without causing irritation.

Stay Hydrated

Just as we protect our skin from the outside, it's just as important to stay hydrated from the inside. Make sure to drink at least half your body weight in ounces of water throughout the day, and consider incorporating hydrating foods like fruits and vegetables into your diet.

It's also important to incorporate healthy fats for soft, supple, glowing skin such as:

  • Wild-caught salmon
  • Avocado
  • Walnuts
  • Ghee
  • Olives and olive oil
  • Brazil nuts (great for your thyroid!)
  • Ground flax seeds
  • Tahini (ground sesame seed paste)
  • Coconut milk and oil
  • Hemp seeds
  • Almond/cashew butter

Healthy fat is also a crucial nutrient needed for the absorption of certain fat - soluble nutrients like vitamins A, D, E and K, which are vital in regulating hormones and youthful skin.

To assist you on your skin health journey, I have a tasty olive oil and garlic spread to share.

In our house, we use the simple topping (below) on a bunch of different foods. We add a spoonful to the top of pasta dishes, soups, and salads (after they are on the plate). Or, once fully refrigerated, you can spread it cold across your favorite type of toasted bread…If you’re like us, you’ll be finding new ways to experiment with this one all the time.

Ok, without further ado…

Homemade Garlic & Olive Oil Spread

Ingredients:

  • 3 Bulbs of Garlic

  • 1 Cup of Olive Oil

  • 1 Glass Jar, with a lid (10 to 12 oz is ideal!)

Preparation:

  1. Break each garlic bulb into separate cloves and carefully peel off the skin.

  2. Place garlic into a small food processor, and pulse until fully minced. (You can also use a kitchen knife and mince by hand.)

  3. Transfer minced garlic into your empty jar (again, 10 to 12 oz works great).

  4. Pour olive oil over top of the garlic. We fill the olive oil all the way up to the top.

  5. Fasten the lid on top of the jar. Turn the jar over a few times to fully combine the olive oil and garlic.

  6. Enjoy!

In peace and wellness,

Shanti
